Datadog webhook setup
Turn monitor alerts into issues and follow their recovery.
Configure Velocity
As a workspace owner or admin, open Settings → Integrations → Datadog. Select the team for new issues, choose a secret of at least 16 characters and save. Optionally enable completing linked issues when monitors recover; new connections leave this off.
Configure Datadog
- In the Datadog Webhooks integration, add a webhook with a name and URL
https://velocity.quest/api/webhooks/datadog. - Set Custom Headers to
{"X-Velocity-Secret":"YOUR_SECRET"}, replacing the placeholder with the secret saved in Velocity. Keep encoding as JSON. - Set the payload to the template below.
- Add
@webhook-YOUR_WEBHOOK_NAMEto the monitor’s notification message. Trigger an owned alert, refresh Recent callbacks in Velocity and open the linked issue.
{
"alert_transition": "$ALERT_TRANSITION",
"alert_type": "$ALERT_TYPE",
"aggregation_key": "$AGGREG_KEY",
"alert_id": "$ALERT_ID",
"event_title": "$EVENT_TITLE",
"event_message": "$TEXT_ONLY_MSG",
"link": "$LINK"
}Events
Triggered and re-triggered alerts create or reuse issues using the aggregation key. Warning and no-data events add alert activity. Recovered events complete the linked issue when configured, with automated changes shown as System.
Verify and maintain the connection
A saved configuration does not prove provider delivery. Check that Recent callbacks includes your monitor event and a linked issue. If an event is received without an issue, check the target team and issue-creation warning. Keep the header secret out of URLs and rotate it in Velocity and Datadog using the bounded overlap controls. To remove the connection, disconnect in Velocity and remove its webhook from Datadog monitor notifications.
